p1371 Code. Wierd problem...

Ok well I know the code is for the low resolution circuit for the optispark. But yesterday was the first time this happend, I had got on the gas a little bit and car died. Got it towed home and checked code. Well I unpluged and repluged the opti harness and it fired right up and code went away. Same thing happens today, Car died when I was getting on the gas a bit, and I did the same thing and it fired right up. Does this sound like an optispark problem or do you guys think it is probly just the opti harness? Oh and another thing that was wierd is when it happend today (2nd time) the code stayed but yet the car still ran. What do you guys think?

Well I borrowed the harness of my friends car and it started right up. I am pretty sure that is the problem. But any more input from you guys?

The only way you can lose the low res pulse from the Opti would be A) Optical sensor in Opti is dead, overheating, blinded by rust, etc. of B) wiring harness is corroded, damaged, bent pins, etc.

It isn't unusual to find that code stored. But when you are having sudden shutdowns and no starts, it would indicate an intermittent failure. When that code sets, the engine shuts down since the fuel system shuts down. As far as the one time you found the code and it didn't shut down, it could have been stored from an earlier event, or there was a loss that was too brief for you to notice.

Injuneer, I am not sure what exactly my problem is. But in your opinion would it be a safe bet its the harness? Cause I put my friends harness on to get the car home and ran fine all the way home. I am hopeing its not the opti, it only has 6k miles on it. I think I am going to go ahead and spend the money on the harness. And if it turns out that isnt the problem. Well I will just consider that just insurance on the next opti or somthing.
