Over reved the MSD Opti???

I finished installing my new Golen 396 longblock 2 weeks ago. I used my MSD opti from my old engine and has ran fine until yesterday. I was kinda racing a Cobra and found that this engine likes to rev past my 7K tach. Everything was fine until the tach suddenly dropped to zero with the engine still running. Next morning tried to fire the car up and it took a few tries to get it to start, still no tach. Now tonight the thing completely died on me. I have no spark, I changed the coil and ignition module. Still no spark, I have power going to the coil and have power going to the opti but still no spark, no blown fuses. Did I fry the opti reving it too high? Im baffled here. I have a LT1 in my S10 and rev the crap out of it all the time and this has never happened.

LOL! I was beating the hell outa him. I was actually letting him pull on me just so I could catch up and pass him. The power that engine makes is rediculous!

If the tach dropped to zero with the engine still running, then I don't think it's the opti. Do you have the tach running to the pcm or the 6AL or where? Sounds more like an ignition problem to me.

The tach is still running to the PCM. The car still doesnt start even if I remove the 6AL. I really hope its not the PCM. I just sent 3 PCM's to Bryan at PCM for less because I didnt need them anymore.

I know the stock pcm doesn't like going much over 7k. Did you try disconnecting the battery for 10-20 min and then reconnect and try again?

No I havent tried that. I did get the PCM tuned by PCM 4 less for that engine but im not sure if that makes a difference on the overeving part.

No, the pcm only accepts tables up to 7200 I think. Not sure.

The PCM won't run past 7,000rpm. It has nothing to do with the Opti.

Well guys im going to try putting my factory PCM in the car just to see if it starts. I know I can't leave it in there cause the car will run like crap but if the car starts it should rule out any other problems. Hopefully

Bad news. I tried 2 different PCM's, my factory one and my buddies 383 Madz28 PCM. The car eventualy starts with my 396 PCM but takes about 3 or 4 constant tries. When it does start the car wont idle for crap until it gets to operating temp. The tach doesn't work with either of the 3 PCM's. One question I have. Where does the PCM get its tach signal from? If I can trace that, im sure I will solve this whole problem.
