otvc wires with stock manifolds?

I have a stock 96 Trans Am and need to give her new plugs and wires. I was thinking about going otvc, but haven't seen anyone go this route with stock exhaust manifolds. Anyone try this?

I don't believe it works very well, if at all, with stock manifolds.

It would be pretty pointless with stock manifolds. Just run them the stock route, it will be easier and cheaper.

Thanks

Thanks. I was just wondering if it would be at all easier or help me to avoid burning up any more wires. I had problems getting it all routed properly the last time.

Are you burning up wires with your manifolds

I've had some trouble with the #8 wire. It was a real PITA to get routed through the stock heat shield. I've burned through it twice. I was hoping that running the wires over the valve covers would save me this headache.

Cheaper? Maybe. Easier? Maybe not if you run it through the stock locations and go with a larger mm wire. Especially on the driver's side where the wire goes through a thin metal heat shield covering the manifold. And on the passenger side, it's near impossible to run larger wires through the stock bracket near the alternator and PS pump bracket.

I thought about doing the same thing but just got stock size wires and took my time routing the wires and I still had to use zip ties in some areas to keep them off the manifold. In fact it only took me two hours to change the plugs my first time - a lot longer to route the wires.

You could always go this route:

there is no real way to do OTVC with stock manifolds. you would have to route them over the hot manifold which defeats the purpose

use lots of zipties and that should keep you from burning up wires. just get creative. it doesnt have to go in the exact stock location

Thanks for all the feedback everyone. Sounds like I'll be best off for now if I stick with the stock routing and buy stock wire sizes. Man I hate that #8 wire... grrr.
