Question OTV Plug Wire kits..how hard?

Okay, I am gonna replace my plug wires when I get the change...replacing my spark plugs are easy, I can do those in 30 minutes without removing a thing. The hard part I'm thinking..harder then wanted anyways, is replacing the Plug Wires. My question is....
Is it pretty easy to install the OTV kit? Im curious as to where the wires go from the tops of the Valve covers when there is already so much crap in the way (intake tubes, coolant lines, etc). Do you just yank out the old wires, bolt on the center mount wire looms (if you chose that one over the side of the Valve Covers), and simply run a wire from each spark plug, up to the valve cover, and down to the Opti? Is it a real easy/clean install? Do you just use the bolts in the center of the valve covers? The little (10mm maybe?) that are already there?
Lastly, wheres the best/cheapest (but good quality) complete kit? All 8 wires (atleast 8mm)...including the Coil to Opti wire, and the mounts/looms? does anyone make them in just black? The few I've seen only come in red or blue (yuck ).
Do any of you have pix of your (V8/LT1) with these installed? Preferrably the Over the Top kit, but Ive also seen the ones that run along the side (I think that looks cleaner/neater..but harder to do.. )
Thanks guys

Re: OTV Plug Wire kits..how hard?

I just did the otvc install on my 95.... I'd say that the hardest part was pulling the old ones off, other than that it EASY EASY EASY. If plug changes are easy for you, this is cake. Also some people have problems getting the opti ends onto the universal wires, but as long as you use lots of lubricant you will eventually get it on there. I personally got the taylor OTVC kit from thunderracing.com, it comes complete for about $108. The install is pretty straighforward really, you just need to decide which way you're going to route your wires to the opti. Also I HIGHLY recommend that you remove the tensioner(two bolts) when removing the pass side wires.

Re: OTV Plug Wire kits..how hard?

I had the OVTC kit from thunder racing (taylor wires), and it worked very well when I did headers on the '94. Was not very hard to put on, hardest part was getting the wires measured and cut/crimped. Took about 2 hours to do, and included all the bolts and everything you need.

Going to be getting the same thing shortly for my "new" 97

Just did mine a couple of weeks ago, also bought the Thunder Racing kit. Use a TON of silicone lubricant to get the opti ends on, otherwise it's a real PITA. I used THIS as a guide, worked out real well .

Re: OTV Plug Wire kits..how hard?

I did the OTVC wires about 1 year and a half ago when I did my headers...It wasn't that hard to do since I had everything apart. The trickiest part was crimping the wires since I had never done that before...otherwise if you take your time I would suggest about 2 hours for it.

Also, buy that silicone-spray to help you slip the rubber boots on. Use the silicone it comes with and the spray together, they will go on like butter!

Thumbs up Re: OTV Plug Wire kits..how hard?

It is very easy. I am using the side mount version. Easy access to the valve covers... Anyway I just run the wires up to the opti where I then cut them and crimp them and install the ends on the opti. Very easy and cant screw up the measurement....... I think there is a pic in my sig (Link)

Those pix look pretty good (I like the color of the Z too )
You have headers? Are headers necessary if I do the OTV Kit? I have stock exhaust manifolds..if headers are necessary, can I just buy the wire sleeves (like the stock plastic 'accordian style') and put those over them along the exhaust part? These kits dont sound like they come ready to install...Is there an actual 100% complete kit that is ready to simply bolt on and plug into the Opti and onto the plugs? I dont want to have to crimp and all that stuff if I dont have to..Ill pay the extra cash (when I get it) to have it done more professionaly...
