Optimal Timing, and what determines it?
Optimal Timing, and what determines it?
I was tuning my car today and got it set at 45 degrees advanced.
Tried it at 40 degrees with -2 retard then bumped it up to 45 degrees 0 retard and it liked it better. But i havent tried 43-44 degrees or 46-47 degrees.
This is on pump fuel 93 octane and always will be.
Cam is a XE 230/236 112 LSA with street ported lloyd elliot heads max lift @ .550 is 255cfms with larger valves. Stock bottom end
Anyone give me some tuning advice, and some knowledge on where to set the timing and what determines it.
Air/fuel looks alittle rich but need a wide band O2 before messing with it.

It's empirical, has to be arrived at by testing and not calculated. If you are talking 45 degrees of advance at WOT, that's way to much. What are you trying to accomplish? Are you talking part throttle tuning?
You proably should post this in the correct "Computer/Diagnostics" forum.

alright.. i posted it up in the computer tech section..
Well regular is at 34-36 right?
I didnt get a chance to play with it way to much but it was at 34 with it pulling 10-12 degrees. So that means it was at 22-24 degrees.
We zeroed out the retard and bumped the timing up to 40 and it liked it... bumped it up to 45 and it liked it more.. But it still may like 42 or 43 better? didnt take a look at it.
My friends car is set at 44 degrees and got 350rwhp out of a small cam 224/230 and ported heads with stock valves, long tubes 6 speed.
