Re: Opti Spark test?

What year is your car? All LT1's are not the same. All years will set a trouble code in the PCM for problems with the optical section. None of them incorporate any direct checks on the high voltage function. But the OBD-II's will detect misfires by cylinder, and that might point you to the Opti if they are "random".

Shoebox also has a procedure on his Tech Pages website for verifying the optical signals.

If you haven't used Shoebox's website before, bookmark it, because it is one of the best resources available on the 'net.

Re: Opti Spark test?

If it started after the work, I would be checking over what was done. May be some plug wires mixed up.

Re: Opti Spark test?

I agree with Shoebox..If it was OK before, then what's going on now.?..My car acted similarly and it was a burned plug wire. It was highly noticable lugging along in overdrive. Re-check all routings and firing order. Also make sure that the ends are completely snapped onto the plugs and into the opti. If you crimped your own, then re-check the opti ends where you crimped 'em...Good luck...
