Re: opti spark replacement?

I had similar problems with my car about 5 or so months ago, I first replace the opti-spark, but still felt pretty weak and there was a weird smell coming from the dash, idle niddle jumping back & forth. Long story short it turn out to be the ignition switch. Something to consider.

Here is a link: http://shbox.com/ignsw/ign_switch_repl.html

the actual ignition switch cost about $12

good luck.!!

Re: opti spark replacement?

The opti itself is not to hard to replace, escpecially the 93/94. I just replaced one on a 95, and kicked myself in the *** for it after. Got the new opti for $289 from Advance Auto....price matched to Summit. Put it on, tore the old one apart, turns out it was blinded by rust. Could've fixed it. Just be sure to look into cheaper and easier things before blaming the Opti. For $1700, I'm sure they'll tell you it's the Opti everytime.

If you suspect and injector, thats a good place to start. I know that you can check them, I just don't know how.

The opti usually will cause the SES light to come on. Do you have any codes?

Man....For $1700 they should at least take you on a date, dinner and a little action afterwards.......
I replaced mine last year and it is not at all that bad. You just have to watch what you are doing.

Get a noid light to check the injectors. I think Autozone has them. You might also check the fuel pressure. You can get a loaner tester at Autozone. They do charge a fee to take it out, but you get it back when you return the tester.

Re: opti spark replacement?

Well i decided to try to replace the oxygen sensors first before trying anything else and the car seems to be fixed. But i could only get to the driver side one is there an easier way to get to the passenger side one then removeing the starter and y pipe? Also when i first fired the car up after only replaceing one i noticed that the car backfired and ran like crap for a bit but then started to run better and seems to be running great now. Is that normal? It is also smokeing a bit of white smoke is that just from sitting for 6 months maybe? The exhaust smells like a car exhaust but it doesn't reak of gas anymore. Thanks to all who help me on this board.
