opti spark question - Megasquirt control
opti spark question - Megasquirt control
The opti spark low resolution signal has 8 slots, some ofthe slots are different length, this is how the LT1 pcm knows where each cylinder is to do sequential injection.
On the 1993 LT1 it was bank to bank injection.
is the low resolution signal on the 1993 Optispack the same as a low resolution signal on a 1995 Optispark.
The problem:
Megasquirt needs a trigger for ignition control. the un even pulese from the low resolution signal will not work, but, if the 93 optisparks signals were all the same, it would work fine.
So does anyone have a 93 optispark that is taken apart or is bad that could take a picture of the metal disc inside with all the slots in it.???
Thanks
Brendan

Re: opti spark question - Megasquirt control
Don't know the answer to the opti question; do you need 8 pulses per revolution? The 96 - 97 timing chain covers have provisions for a reluctor gear/pick-up for the crankshaft position sensor. I believe it provides 4 pulses per crankshaft revolution.
Re: opti spark question - Megasquirt control
There are two Optis old style and the new vented style thats it and they output the exact same signal, that is why you can upgrade from the old style Opti to the new one. Hwta are you trying to do? can you use the tach signal from the coil pack?

Not to sound like a " I know a guy that can do anything", but there is a guy that is going to be helping me with my Mega Squirt on my LT1 soon. He is one of the guys that puts them together, and I think he might be able to help you out. If nothing else, it is another venue for you to go down. He is on this site: http://www.gmmodernmuscle.com/forums/index.php
He goes under the name of: dieselgeek
He is the guy that rode along with Parish (the turbo pickup from drag week, that also uses the Mega Squirt) and has been a tuner on that truck. I hope I am not stepping on anyones toes for posting this, but I really do feel he knows his stuff. You might have to register to be able to pm him, but he is MORE than happy to help anyone with computer issues, especially the Mega Squirt. You can mention my name, Drivefast4fun, he knows who I am, and it might help him know how you found him. There are quite a few MegaSquirt people on that board, including a turbo BMW, not sure on his name on the board though! Really, I hope this helps! Jason

Re: opti spark question - Megasquirt control
Your stock PCM will still need the low res Opti signal, since it shuts off the fuel pump if it can't find it. Why not just get a toothed timing wheel from Electromotive and bolt it on the front of the stock damper. They had a wheel and a pickup specific for the LT1, that they used with their short-live SDI/Opti-Eliminator system.
