Good idea, thanks. Ill have to do this. It's probably only a matter of time before this opti fails and ill have it apart again lol.

Pretty sure another rotor just fell apart. Had to tow the car once again.

are you loc-tighting the rotor screws?

also, i was told there needs to be a restrictor/orifice of some type and also a one way check valve on the intake side of the optispark vacuum harness...

Haven't tore this one apart yet, but the other two the rotor screws were still tight. It was the rest of the rotor breaking. The one on the car now has a broken vacuum port on the cap plugged with a screw and silicone. All that was hooked up for a vent was one line to the manifold with a check valve so that it could only pull vacuum on the opti.

Think what happens when you pull a high vacuum on the Opti.... it sucks the cap inwards.

Oh...that could be what did it. At idle it does pull over 10 in. of vacuum. Although I was under 5psi and half-throttle when it started backfiring and then finally died. When i put the new opti on i will make sure not to break off the vacuum port and hook the vents up properly.

I'm thinking I should probably hook up the vent for the air intake sided before the turbo right?

When you decel, the vacuum can approach 25"Hg.

Have you checked the dowel pin length?

Ya I put some chapstick in slot for the dowel pin and it didn't squish it all the way in. Didn't have any clay. That and you can see wear marks that indicate the dowel isn't going in to far.

I will take more pics this weekend when I get time to tear it apart. This was an original ac delco cap and rotor off of my ta with over 100k miles, so it could have just been because it was old.

Stupid....

I replaced the opti...no start. Then the coil...no start. Decided to unhook the msd box and see if thats it. Green wire to the coil under all my electrical tape that i didn't solder was unhooked. I know I'm supposed to check all connections, but got carried away with throwing parts at it. Just sharing so my stupidity can be your gain.

On the up side it runs a lot smoother with the new coil. That and hopefully it will last with the opti now vented properly and not having a cap on it with a broken and plugged port. I have it hooked up normally with the check valve and orifice. Then the cap is hooked up to a small 3/8'' breather located in the front bumper that way it can draw nice cool air in. I don't drive the car if there is even a chance of it raining, so not worried about that.

Thanks for all the help
James
