Opti options?

Since gm discontinued the opti, what are our options? I ordered three from amazon that were advertised as oem. 2 were cracked and one was an old school rear intake style distributor. The 2 broken ones peaked my curiosity so o opened them up and sure enough they had chinese sensors.

Do we have to go with coil conversion at this point or is there a solid option?

No msd or accel for me.

Re: Opti options?

The best option currently on the market is the Petris Industries opti unit, I personally have no experience with it. However, there are no known failures of the unit currently to my belief. The optical sensor is not a cheap Chinese unit and the screws are loctited when you receive the unit. Please don't waste your money buying cheap units off Amazon, it's not worth the headache of replacing them over and over again. Bob Bailey makes a product called the LTCC, which is a coil conversion kit using 8 individual LS1 coils, it takes the primary stress off the high voltage side of the optispark. Generally though, you want an optispark with a good optical sensor in it (Petris industries or Mitsubishi equivalent) before investing in the LTCC ($500-600ish).

A few people have tried this one:

No negative feedback so far.

Oh and one more thing. You can delete the optispark as a whole through a couple methods. The TorqHead 24x system comes in a variety of options if you'd like to save money fabricating your own parts. However, it's quite pricey.

I have been gratified by injuneer and shoebox for many things here, I rarely post....but, I wanted a petri opti , they were out. I needed one bad. I ordered one from summit, and its been great for a year going. I went through 2 msd units.... So far ,so good with summit opti. Car is a daily driver
