Opti optical side, how to lay down the metal pieces?

I think I know why my car keeps dying out of no where. There are two disks in the optical side, the bigger disk which has slots all in it and I am not sure what the small disk is for. Does the smaller disk lay down first, than the bigger disk with the slots, than the rotor go on top of that. For some reason the big disk has a circular burn mark on it, which I think it is because it is sliding across the sensor that reads this disk. Before I reinstall this I want to make sure it is right. Thanks for any help.

Awesome, I figured I had laid it down wrong. Do you think this could have caused my car to shut down due to my idiotic self putting the bigger disk on top, which apparently caused the disk to rub against the sensor? Thanks for your help.

It is very possible, the smaller one does come into play.

A good reference on the vented Opti's (might want to add the year of your car to your signature - makes it a lot easier for people to answer tech questions):

Well dang this one shows the smaller disk on first, then the bigger disk goes on next. So which one goes on first and why? By the way I have a 1996 camaro with the vented opti. Again thanks for any help.

Does it really matter because I just put the opti back on and got it running. Or do I need to pull it back off and put the small disk on first, then the big disk. Also what is the point of the small disk. Thanks.
