Opti OK, found real problem
Opti OK, found real problem
Some may remember me posting about my newly purchased TA not starting. Some had said that it might be the Opti -- i wasnt getting any pcm codes, but with the mileage and deglect i figured it was just time.
Well im in the midst of my cam swap and today I unbolted the ignition coil from the head and found that the real problem was that the ignition coil wire and connector was totally coroded (see pic).

Note: thats not glare on the terminal end. It was totally encased in white sooty stuff. I think this could definitely be my hard starting problem!

Never seen one that bad. Im really glad that my opti is still alive. I'll throw a new cap and rotor on it and call it a day. I am still prepping for the headers, cc503 cam and pro mag rockers.. so the opti wont be on for a while.
I had one about like that but it was on the opti end of the coil wire. Pushed the coil wire totally off the opti. Bad part was i drove it home just fine parked it and came out to go to work the next morning BAM nothing but a little trying to run backwards. That was a real head scratcher, I had the coolant drained and was about to take the water pump off when I found the real problem (just assumed it was opti and had a spare).
I wish i had looked a bit better before deciding to just go after the opti. It was after i had taken everything off that i decided to do cam swap and valvetrain upgrades. Oh well i guess in the end the car will be much faster.
