opti install problem
Re: opti install problem
ok so i get my car started to being the limping 8 miles ride to where i was going to replace the reman. opti with a new GM one. my car lit on fire. right now all i can see from the top is no damage and the top half of my oil dip stick gone. the fire stank of spark plug wire.
i was driving when it started to smell bad and temps went up, then smoke came out from underneath the hood. i open hood and see fire underneath/on kind of the passenger side header. i douse in water. car seems fine, but it still stinks of burned plastic, i am assuming just the spark plug wire as the car was running until i shut it off. i think i might have engaged in the most horrible cam swap in history. Firebird Raceway has open track friday, and this car is going to make it onto that strip, on fire, running, or not. i have a free wednesday and thursday and am having no mercy on this thing. it will like the cam, no matter what it has to say about it.

Re: opti install problem
oh yeah, now i have a sweet excuse to change the spark plugs and wires. i am just going with checker wires, the GM ones seem to work, but should should i put in there for spark plugs?
Re: opti install problem
wow, i just went out and looked. the spark plug boots on cylinders 6 and 8 are what went on fire, the wires went with them. there is also a harness down the strut tower that got a bit hot and melted a little. i wil have to take pictures of this carnage to see if anyone recognizes anything important and/or expensive
