Re: opti install problem

More info is needed. What was "bad" on the old opti and what was replaced with the "new" opti?

Re: opti install problem

what was bad on the old opti? it was 130k old, and when i would spin the pin in it you heard grinding. the new one had a slightly used cap and rotor, and a new metal piece that was reman.

i hav also been experiencing large drops in voltage, right now my battery is in the trunk. i am going to move it to the front to see if that helps. when running my volt gauge in front shows about 7-8. although with a voltometer placed on the battery in the trunk the battery shows 12-13

Re: opti install problem

I have been helping him out.

I have had no problems with re-mans, and have put them on a couple of other cars, inculding my own, with no probs. Though just like form gm you can get bad ones right out of the box. As for the wiring, man its kinda rigged, so get that cleaned up, and go from there.

Re: opti install problem

yeah, i am going to clean it up in a minute or two, i called GM to see how much a new opti from them was, they wanted 659, i asked them what if i was a UTI student and they said 539. gmpartsdirect is much cheaper. i am going to clean that electrical up and see what happens

Re: opti install problem

i decided my voltage problem isn't the culrit, so i have it down to the opti. i would like to think maybe spark plug and wires, but they were fine just 2 weeks ago, and i have only put 100 soft stumbling miles on the car bringing from tempe to scottsdale a few times to work on it

Re: opti install problem

Any time an opti install is doubtful, put #1 at TDC and pull the cap off the opti. See that the rotor is pointing in the direction of where the contact for #1 cylinder is inside the cap.

Re: opti install problem

If money is an issue, just exchange it for another reman... since there is just something wrong with the one you installed. Also start buying them from oreilys or autozone since they come with LIFETIME warrenties, this wat it will be the last time you pay for one!

Re: opti install problem

the starting does not occur. when i was driving across the street my car died on dorsey and i pushed it all the way into my parking spot. i think am just going ot buy the GM one. i really would not like dealing with another one like this.

Re: opti install problem

There was a guy that had the some problem as you and it turned out that his coil wire was the culprit. If you have a multimeter tester, the resistance reading of the wire should be very low (30 to 40 ohms I think). A bad optispark will destroy plug wires real fast.
