OPTI failing, thinking of new system.....

Has anyone tried this setup before? My car goes thro opti's like nothing. (had the car since march, replaced the opti 3 times already.) well i was looking online and i forgot where i saw it but someone mentioned this system. Looking around it looks to be pretty clean cut, im going to have to take the opti off again and prob clean it out, since its faulting on me again. (i love driving and then having my car randomly turn off.) Either way, im looking for a way to stop having to work on the opti

here is the link for the bailey system:

and here is what tony showed me today (thanks tony)

let me know what you think and what seems to be better to use.

Thanks

To completely eliminate the opti it is going to be price. Looking at well over $1000. Your stock motor should not be destroying the opti that often. What type of opti are you running; msd, GM, accel, or ebay. The ls1 system with ls1 PCM will be the best set up.

Go with a EFI Connection 24x. Eliminate the Opti completly and I believe you can do I for just under $1000 if done with the DIY kit.

I think this should be a recall and GM should be required to switch these LT1 cars over to LS1 ignition. The opti is one of the biggest design flaws GM has produced. Why did the v6 cars get distributor less ignition and we got stuck with this pos opti.

The opti is not as bad as people make it out to be. I have personally had one that lasted for over 100 k before being replaced..and even at that it was still doing ok internally..just needed a cap and rotor like any distributor would. When the opti is pushed above 6000 rpm and above is when they start to have the most issues..as they were not designed for that in the first place.

What do you need to "clean out" of your Opti?

What is the "fault" your are detecting?

When its failed in the past, what failed?

its going thru seals like no ones business. All the seals and gaskets were replaced the last time, but now i have oil all over the bottom of my water pump! idk what the hell to do anymore, for it just being replaced, it shouldnt be leaking now...

I really REALLY shouldnt be saying this but my first opti made it 150,000 miles and (although it gave up on me 1000 miles from home), was not tough to replace...something else is up, waterpump leaking into it or cheap parts, who knows. One thing I can suggest for sure is that you should really consider a higher end unit (OEM or MSD).

I love my LTCC, I might invest in the EFI Connections 24x stuff one day, but the LTCC works fine for me at the moment.

Sounds like you ripped the WP seal.

These "I hate the opti!" threads are hilarious. When the opti works, it works good. It's just located in a bad place. And I see a lot of opti problems that can be chocked up to install error or improper diagnosis. Just my $0.02.

I see where they say:

Gear and sensor $525.00
Used LS1 PCM $100.00
Harness DIY $100.00 If made either $650.00 or $850.00
Coils $200.00
Pig tails $65.00

They don't provide programming services. So the above example does NOT include programming. And you have to build the harness yourself. Yeah let us know how that works our for ya.

Did you ever think since most of us have the OEM opti with no problems what so ever that either you have another problem or someone is doing something wrong?

You don't have an Opti problem. Something else is screwed up, possibly the install.
