Opti/Cap & Rotor same thing??

Hey guys I'm a bit confused. Is the Opti-Spark a seperate unit then the Cap/Rotor?? Is it just another name for the Cap/Rotor? The reason I ask is because in my new Hot Rod mag there is an ad for MSD LT1 Cap/Rotor but it looks like the whole unit that you plug the wires into. Which I thought was the opti. Hope you can clear this up for me. Thanks

Re: Opti/Cap & Rotor same thing??

The Optispark is the distributor. It has two parts.... the front 1/2 is the cap and rotor (plug and coil wires connect to it, just like any other distributor). The back 1/2 is the housing, bearing, bearing retainer, slotted optical wheel, optical sensor and harness connector. The cap/rotor dies in about 70% of the cases, the rear section the other 30%.

The MSD replacement is only the cap and rotor.
