opinions on FAST, MOTEC, and DFI

I am in the process of trying to find a new ignition system for my ride. I have done a lot of research, but id like ot get personal opinions on each. who has what? are you happy with it? any regrets? easy installation? programming? Special features that made you go with that product? I am leaning towards teh FAST sequential system, but im open to all. IF there are any good writeups that any one has done that i may have missed, let me know. thanks for any info

Am using Accel DFI. Have yet to make it back to the track since I got the final tune. Had alot of problems last fall getting it tuned just right. Car is more streetable then it was. Make sure you get a knowledgable tuner whith whatever system you buy.

The shop that I deal with is authorized installer/tuner for MoTeC, FAST, Accel/DFI, Haltech and Electromotive. Their first choice is MoTeC.... for their own 7.0-second Pro 5.0 Mustang (nitrous), and for George Baxter's 1,125HP LT1 (S/C). But recognizing that the MoTeC can get very expensive, their next choice is the DFI Gen VII. They found me a used MoTeC M48Pro for about 1/2 of original cost... so it was a little more affordable.

Chad,
It depends on what your plans are and what your budget is. As was already stated, the Motec is the Mack Daddy top of the line system, but it is very expensive. The GEN VII is fairly common. It's alot less expensive than the Motec. The FAST system is similar in price to the GEN VII, but is the most user friendly. If you're considering do the programming yourself, then I'd highly recommend going with the FAST system. That's what I did.

MoTec is the king, but you need to be rich to won it. My friend had MoTec in his car and loved it. .. Watch out for some newer Accel versions so you will not be locked out of certain features, needing to take it to a rep. to tune it for you.
I have heard FAST is the easiest to tune ??

I plan on doing all the programming myself unless i get lost or stuck doing so. I have also heard that FAST is the easiest to tune. I read everythign on their website and downloaded their demo version, it looks like it was laid out pretty well.
bad79z28: did you get the sequential version of FAST? soudns like that wouldbe the way to go if you are running the juice. ARe you running a distributer on your car for the crank and cam signals? thanks again for the info

The Electromotive TEC3 works well and is relatively inexpensive. If $$$ is not an issue, then go Motec.

ok...

Rich is in

Why motec...

and WHICH motec...

I wanted the m800 i think it was... how much $ is it? Will I retain all im looking for?

I know you still ahve the factory PCM for now, but I want to remove the damn MAF limitation and I want ANY table for boost... I have been a bit scare that if you run part throttle and seeing boost that you either run excesively rich if you activate the PE at lower TPS % and/or go lean and ping in other situations.

I was also thinking on tapping on the ECT so when in boost it will send the PCM that the car is hot and use the ECT as MAP or something similar...

Do a internet search for engine management systems, simple digital systems has a cool setup, wont run a 4L60E tranny though. Cool nontheless.
The newest version of F.A.S.T is the easiest to tune that I have seen, the GEN7 DFI has a "self mapping" type deal with the wideband option to hit a target airfuel ratio.

I see no need for the sequential system, plenty of power being made with bank to bank systems, all the guys here run F.A.S.T systems, all bank to bank. Couple of cars here running in the 8's, one mid 10's with that system.
With F.A.S.T you can data log and overlay it on a particular parameter and tune... pretty cool stuff.
