OLD school sbc into 94 camaro?

I'm looking to maybee put a old sbc into my 94 camaro z28. I was wondering if it's allot of work. What's everything that I will need. I wanted to run my stock t56 with it? Will everything just bolt up. Is this a costly project?

I have not done it, but I think its just a bolt in, the bellhousing pattern is the same, so the trans should be no problem. I am assuming you are running a carb, so you rip out the computer and harness, the fuel line wont lineup, but you can cut that under the car, and splice in a new piece, the gas tank has an electric fuel pump in it, you can use it, and put a block off plate on your motor. I am not sure if you would have to regulate the fuel pressure, I think not, because its carb, but you might have to buy something, to make a return to the tank! LT1's were capable of putting in a distributor, so you should have firewall clearance, but I wouldnt run that stock GM HEI distributor that has the coil on the cap, I would go with an aftermarket, so you dont hit the firewall when trying to time it. Good luck.

The Gen 1 engines do not bolt up to an LT1 T56. There is a kit available.

You can't run a carb with a 45psi fuel supply. Definitely need a pressure regulator. The return line is already there for a bypass style regulator. A lower pressure pump would be a better solution.

Why would the fuel line "not line up"? Its got about 3-feet of plastic tubing after it comes out of the driver's side fender well.

It isn't firewall clearance that's a problem with a conventional distributor, its the cowl. Some people have cut out the cowl and the wiper linkage for clearance, others have found distributors that will fit.

Going to a Gen 1 block does not mean you have to go to a carb and a distributor. It can be injected and have a fully computer controlled direct-fire ignition.

But you need an aftermarket ECU, or to keep the LT1 PCM, you need to find a way to mount the optical sensor from the Opti either on the front of the engine, or using a distributor stub. It has been done.

If you mean the kit to fit the LT1 T56 to a Gen 1 block, check with Spohn Performance. Steve Spohn borrowed my spare LT1 T56 to help design the kit. He doesn't make the kit, but he knows who does.
