Oiling question (Ball underneath rear main cap)?

Yep I just got a flashlight for christmas that puts out ~140 lumens so brightness wasn't an issue (and if you don't know anything about lumens, I think a d-cel mag light puts out ~60 lumens.)

If you have new pistons put on the rods, you should have the big ends re-sized with new bolts - especially if the rod bearings have spun per the OP.
I always clean a fresh block before assembly as I have seen crap come out that I really wouldn't want to have run through my fresh bullet...like a valve keeper out of the oil passge.

Must not be be that you were talking to b/c I def. didn't have any spun bearings, the motor came out of a low milage roadmaster that the guy wrecked.

Also this was a performance shop that did my machine work, and are well known enought to have several LSx motors waiting for them to build them. So when they tell me that the block is so clean that they would start assembling it I'll take their word.
