Oil temp gauge....Where to tap?

Well, Im assuming the best place will/would be the oil pan. Does anybody else have any insight on this? Is there anywhere on the oil pan that would not be safe to tap into? (ie. are there any magnets on the bottom or anything that I have to worry about?)
I basically have to tap/thread a hole for the sender to fit into. If any of you have installed a temp gauge and have tips...I would be more than happy to hear them.

On your 96 there should be a fitting just above the oil filter. The temp here well be that of filtered oil headed to the bearing and lifters.
