Anybody know what rpm the rev limiter is on a 96 SS. Also has anybody installed a recessed shift light in the dash before.

I believe the stock rev limiter is at 5800 rpm.

You're saying, you can wind first gear to whatever rpm you want, right.

edit; I get it, you're saying there is a speed limiter for each gear.

You are both right and wrong. There are no rev. limiters on Lt1s in KY and there are no speed limiters in Ky either.

Special pkgs. are made for Lt1s for moonshine runners in KY, Ala. Tenn.and Ark. and Miss.

Most other states, the limiters are set at 5800.

If you want to up the limit, you need to have PCM programmed or get an MSD-AL ignition. Or if you can find a real cheap HPP, that'll work too.JMHO

How would an MSD 6al box 'get rid of' a rev limiter?
As far as I know, you'd STILL have to program the stock one out [or higher]

You are correct, use an hpp ot lt1edit to move the rev limit up to 6900, then use the msd to set the new rev limit. Factory limiter shuts off fuel, msd and other aftermarket limit ignition.
