arg! chip in paint to bare metal!
This sucks, my car is immaculate and i get this chip on my passanger side door, under teh handle. The chip is to the bare metal, it is real small though. I wanted to fix it to make it perfect again, but I can't unless u guys can help.
Here's what i did, i washed the area, dapped in some primer, then after that dried i dabbed on some paint i got from the dealer as a perfect match. I waited for it to dry then i got some rubbing compound and buffed the area so the touchup paint is flush with the surrounding area. It still doesn't match perfectly, do i have to use clearcoat on top of the paint to?? I didn't do that, should i or does that really matter?? Also, i mean the repair I did is OK, it's not slop or anything but u can tell it is touched up if u look at it closely. Is there anyway to do a perfect job so no one can tell it was touched up, or basically all i can do is what i already did without going to a body shop?? I looked in some books and it said to sand the area, then wetsand, but i don't want to do that for such a small nick in the paint. THanks for any suggestions! Later

Personally I have found I can hide a repair using touch up clear but you do not have to use it, see here: http://www.angelfire.com/il/99redbird/rockchip.html
