Oil Pump and Pan Gasket
Oil Pump and Pan Gasket
My oil pan gasket is leaking after the the timing chain install I had done last winter and I want to fix it.
I want to go with a one piece oil pan gasket and while the pan is off, replace the oil pump. What would be the best parts to go with and where to get them? Thanks in advance.

Re: Oil Pump and Pan Gasket
just make sure you have clean mating surfaces and it should go like cake. You can use some vasoline to keep the gasket from moving around while your trying to get the oil pan in place (that is what i do with my trans gasket).
Re: Oil Pump and Pan Gasket
I just installed my pan gasket last night. Washed the oil pan down in my parts washer that's filled w/ mineral spirits, then used brake cleaner and a clean rag to clean off the pan rails on the block. Waited to make sure everything was dry and clean. used black rtv and ran a very small bead down the pan rails and valley on the pan, placed a new napa gasket on there, dabbed rtv in the corners of the timing cover and rear main seal on the block, then ran a very small bead around both of their valleys. installed the pan, had one hell of a time getting the pan installed, just didn't want to go.. then realized the gasket has a HOLE for the dipstick tube, not a indentation like they use to. lol, after pulling all the bolts loose and dropping the pan, running the dipstick THROUGH the hole, it went on without a hitch. I put in 5 qts, primed the motor and turned the crank several times by hand but haven't had a chance to fire it up yet. Just figured I'd share my story so you won't be loosing time over the same stupid mistake, although I'm not sure how tight it is under the z, my lt1 is sitting in a 4wd s10 blazer, so it was a little snug.
