Gear to gear
Re: Gear to gear
i've heard its not a good idea on a motor that is equipped with a knock module. I guess the extra noise and harmonics caused by gear driven camshafts cause the knock module to go nuts and retard you timing so unless you have a fix for that it doesn't sound like much of a good idea to me
Re: Gear to gear
But if your modifying the car to the point that you need gears, you'd need a good PCM tune anyways, and you could have whoever does the PCM for you disable the knock module. I wouldnt reccomend it, but if your dead set on gears, it could be done.
Re: Gear to gear
Yep.
They can totally program it out if you want them to. I am not totally sure how the tables are so that it is disabled, but I do know that it can be done. Try talking to the guys from PCMforless, Ion, or some of the other guys who do PCM's

Re: Gear to gear
There are some negitive points to disabling it though.
If you were getting knock, your engine could be severly damaged.
When you talk to them, they could tell you the pros and cons of the whole thing and maybe point you in the right direction.
If your not going to be making absurd amounts of horsepower though, I would just suggest going to a electric water pump, and then buy the best double roller timing set you can afford.
