There have been dozens of threads about pan removal. Search them out. Some advice differs, depending on the transmission installed. I have not done one in the car, so I cannot tell you anything from experience.

I have an automatic transmission and have done the oil pump in the car. You have to jack up the motor until it is hitting the cowl of the car...it only lifts a few inches. The other thing is there is a one piece felpro gasket that I recommend using, if you search around there is a part number. I put a canton pan back in, and it was a pain. Some people drop the k-member and then do the pan while the motor is in the car, like shoebox said do a search.

Why do you want to change the pump???

The oil pump is VERY reliable and if chasing a problem this is unlikely to resolve it.

When i dropped my pan I had to disconnect the engine mounts and jack the engine. I also had to drop the K-member, didn't have to disconnect too much. If I remember right I only had to disconnect the steering column and a couple of suspension components. I unbolted the K-member and steering column, and then with the wheels on I jacked the car and the engine simultaneously until I had enough room to remove the oil pan.

If you understand the concept it isn't that bad, just time consuming. I did it a couple of years ago, sorry I couldn't remember exactly what I had to disconnect.
