If you go with a high volume, you need a bigger oil pan than stock, one that will hold 6 or 7 quarts of oil. Otherwise, the high volume pump could potentially suck the stock pan dry.

I've heard high pressure pumps work well. I personally and building a high performance 355 and am going to run a stock volume, stock pressure pump.

Here is some stuff to read.

Also, if you go with a mellings pump and want the high pressure, you can go with the M-55 stock replacement pump and add a high pressure spring, Mr. Gasket part # 26. It is the same spring as in the M-55A high pressure pump.

If you do go with mellings, I've read that they are making their pumps with thinner castings that is causing the pumps to break. It seems this is mainly happening in dragsters that have a lot of tire shake.
In this pic you can see that the neck below where the pump bolts on is thinner. 0.80" vs. 1.25".

I ran a high volume and stock pan for a long time..never had a problem out of it. I now run a hamburger pan though and its 7 quart.

Better read the post I just put out about the melling design change.

You really need to read this thread http://web.camaross.com/forums/showt...highlight=pump if you have any inclination to use a HV pump with a stock pan. I can sum up my opinion, learned the hard way ($5,000 and a lost season was what it cost me). Do NOT use a HV pump and a stock LT1 pan under any circumstances.
