Oil Pressure seems way too low...
Oil Pressure seems way too low...
I just replaced my oil pressure sending unit, as it was not working at all, and my gauge shows the pressure in the red at idle (about 750-800 RPM) once the car is warm. The car has about 106000 miles on it. When its cold the pressure is closer to 20 at idle, and when I'm driving normally the pressure is closer to 25-30 when the car is warmed up, a little higher when cold. I was wondering if there was something that would cause this? If i rev the car to just over 1000 RPM the pressure gets out of the red but is still at about 10 when warm. Any ideas/help would be appreciated.
Re: Oil Pressure seems way too low...
The "Check Gauges" light should be on if the oil pressure is in the red. It comes on when the pressure drops below 6psi. That is the lower limit spec set by GM.
First, I would check the pressure with a mechanical pressure gauge, if you did not do so before replacing the old sensor.

Re: Oil Pressure seems way too low...
The check gauges light does come on. After full warmed the gauge shows pretty much zero pressure. Once I give it gas it increases to about 15 at like 1200 RPMs. I'm gonna see about getting a manual gauge and checking it. Where would I hook it up to, since I've never used one before?
