Oil Pressure Questions.

Ok my car is in my sig, when I first start it like when it's in Open loop (sitting over night) the gauge sticks at about 42~43 PSI reguardless of RPM....so my question is, is my sending unit bad or is my frikin oil pump going....Also at 2000~2100 RPM I have 35~40 PSI of pressure is this normal or should I be worried? Also I have wat sounds like (rod knock) but doesn't intensify with RPM nor does it do it all the time...so not worried about that just thought I would put it up there....and my oil pressure at idle (500 RPM) is about anywhere from 20 PSI to almost the little red mark, its starting to freak me out...any help would be greatly appreciated....thanks

I would put a good mechanical guage on it to see if it is ok. I really dont trust the stock guage anyway.

well I think the sending unit is probably going....112XXX and it's still stocker soo I might try that and see....but the wierd part is it runs extremely strong....no knocking....a shop had my car for 2 weeks (while ago) and never said anything about and they're are really good, so I'm worried but not to the point where I don't want to drive it.....oh and the motor has 40,XXX on it since rebuild....and how hard is it to change the sending unit with the motor in the car????? thanks for the help in advance....

Hook up an oil pressure gauge and test the pressure. If it is ok on the gauge then it is the sending unit (circuit). If it is low then you may have a genuine pressure concern such as a restriction on the pick up, bearing tolerance out of spec where excess oil is seeping out... which could be part of the knock or vice/versa.

where do you put the mechanical gauge? and the knock isn't all the time...so it's not rod knock.....I heard that it's 10 psi for every 1000 rpm....and the haynes says 8 psi minimum at 500 and I definately have that I have 20....

It's on the back of the engine under the EGR Valve. It isn't easy... here is the link.
