oil pressure off the charts!!!
oil pressure off the charts!!!
okay, i finished changing out my intake manifold gasket yesterday. i put everything back to normal. at least i'm pretty sure i did. (if anyone has a pic of both the left and right side engine bay, please let me know so i can double check.) i started it up about 30 minutes ago and took it for a ride through the neighborhood. my oil pressure gauge is reading so high that its not on the gauge anymore. also if i try to give it anything more than half throttle, it starts misfiring bad! i dont have any oil leaks. that i'm aware of anyways. when i changed my gasket, i followed the instructions of Kelly Drown on projecttransam.com perfectly. is it possible that i hooked a vacuum line up wrong somewhere to cause this? any ideas? thanks for any help.

edit: also let me add that the oil pressure is not dropping once warmed up. and the temp is not out of the ordinary. stays around 200*. seems like it idles okay though. hmm???
EDIT #2: if anyone has a pic of the passenger side of the motor that you can see the vacuum lines real well in, please post them for me. i'm thinking i might have mixed up some lines possibly.

just a guess but I bet you accidently unplugged the oil pressure sensor. It is located on the drivers side. Check the link below to see pic of its location. When unplugged it will peg oil pressure guage all the way up.

okay, i checked and that sensor seems to be in place. i did however look over all the sensors again and found the clip on the sensor that plugs into the water pump to be broken. so when i tugged on it a little, it popped right out. so its a good possibility that it wasnt plugged in all the way. is this whole scenario possible from just that plug being loose. or should i keep looking. i'm trying to hold off on starting the car again until i find what the problem is. when that engine gets hot, there isnt too much messing around with it. thanks for the input though. i appreciate it.

Make sure you fix that sensor up nice... I broke mine on my blower install and I thought I could ghetto rig it. Let me sum it up by saying DO NOT ghetto rig it. I would get a nice connector unless you can find some way to have that connector be securely plugged in because that is the temp sensor for the PCM.
Also, if your oil pressure is off the charts its most likely an electrical problem not a mechanical problem, especially if your engine is running fine. Maybe the sender is bad??

just FYI: its running normal now. i pulled a lot of plugs and sprayed them with the electrical contact cleaner and put them back. also with the plug that came out plugged back in, it seems to be working normal. thanks for all the help guys. i always hate scenario's like these, my freeking stomach twisted when it started acting up. thanks.
