oil pressure

I posted a month ago but haven't had time to work on. Heres the problem in detail.

I replaced my opti and after that is when my oil press. guage started reading weird.
When I start my car it runs at 40 psi for about 2 min. after driving for about 10 min It just stays at 20psi no matter what rpm. After about 20 min at idol it will drop very close to 0psi.
After I replaced the opti I put in mobil 1 10-30, but I usually run mobil 1 15-50.
Could this possibly be the oil pump, it has 112Kmi?
Could this be the guage sending unit and if so is there any way to test this?

plus I thought if an oil pump went out it just went out, i didn't think it just went out slowly

thenks guys, I need to get this fixed soon

Re: oil pressure

oil pumps can loose pressure when they are ready to die. Try replacing the sensor (top back right of block, behind intake) maybe it is clogged. Other wise replace the pump.

Re: oil pressure

i have a question about this as well. i just changed my oil and i put in 10w-30. when i start the car, pressure is about 55...atfter a while it drops to about 40, then to 60 when i accelerate. after about 20-30 mins of driving, pressure is about 25 at idle. is that normal? its never dropped to zero or anything. but what type of oil should i use? i noticed after i had already changed the oil it says 5w-30 on the oil fill cap...does it matter? ive always used 10w-30...

Seems pretty normal to me. Mine drops to about 22 (aftermarket guage) when fully warm at idle.

Yes, although it is a pain in the butt to get to. Need to get some kind of adjustable wrench back there to get it started (cant remember size, but was pretty big and deep, don't think I had a socket that would work). After it is started it turns pretty easy. Careful not to break it, I broke my first one where the plastic body meets the metal "wrench and thread" portion.

It's actually very easy. I installed Auto-Meter Ultra-Lite oil pressure and water temp gauges. They are electric gauges and come with everything needed for the install. There is an oil galley plug just above the oil filter. Remove this plug and install the Auto-Meter sending unit with the appropriate adaptor. Then you just need to run the wires for the gauge and mount it. This way you can retain your gauge on the dash, which is nice in case one of the gauges has a problem.
