oil pressure

was just wondering about everybodys oil pressure?, when the car is running fine. I have had people tell me that the gauge doesn't sart reading until 1000rpm. Even while staying on the gas and running it threw 4th my oil pressure doesn't really move that much. Also alot of the time on start up I have a check gauges light, that goes away when I give the gas pedal a little tap, the oil presssure gauge bounces a little and the light goes off. What about the rest of you?

2 things..You may need rebuild cuz your oil perssure is 0 (the check the gauges light, pointing in your oil pressure gauge), or your sending unit is bad (many people have that problem)...YOu have to check the oil pressure using mechanical gauge (any shop will do this for couple $$).
If you have no oill pressure that means that your bearings are too thin = rebuild your engine....

Well on my 106K motor, when fully warmed up, i have about 22-23 PSI oil press (according to my gauge, in gear at idle.) As soon as i hit the gas it goes up to the 45-55 psi range. On a cold start i get 40-45 psi at idle, NOT in gear (goes down only about 5psi when put n gear). After a 1-2 minute warm-up in the morning and i start driving and get revs up to about 2-3K i have seen as high as 75 PSI!........ This is all with Castrol GTX high milage 5W30.

How long has it been since you did an oil change? What grade oil are you running 5W30? Maybe you can try 10W30 or 10W40 even. Id get a new oil press sending unit ASAP though. Only real way to know is get a good aftermarket gauge on it and see whats really going on. How many miles are on your car, you didnt say.

car specs

My z is a 96 with 95500 miles. right now and for the past year or so i've been running mobile one 15w-50. i hope i don't have to rebuild it. the way things have gone in the past with this car it would make more sense top trade in/sell before it blows up.
