oil pan gasket

Do i have to take my timing chain cover off to replace my oil pan gasket

That's sort of a yes and no. Would it be better to do? In my opinion, yes. Do you have to? Probably not.

The bottom of the timing cover gets sealed by the front of the oil pan cover, so it is possible to mess up the bottom of the gasket. Plus it's always good to change the timing chain cover gasket as sort of preventative maintenance.

No I did not remove the time_chain cover (1997ss LT1). I did have to lift the engine up off the front mounts. Engine lift was about 1 1/2+ inch. I have an aftermarket pan, so, I could not remove it (due to K_member low clearance). Slipped the new oil pan gasket around the front and rear to set it in place. B.
