If it has never been changed, it's time. A genuine GM opti is probably the best value at this time.

If you have oil in your opti, I would tend to believe you have a leaking WP or Opti seal in your timing cover. This is not uncommon and while you have your opti off I would check them and probably go ahead and replace them. Very easy and do a seach as tons of info will turn up.

The WP (Waterpump) seal and Opti seals are two circlular seals in the timing cover. One is located directly behind the WP and the other is directly behind the Opti and they seal the timing cover to both. See the diagram below and look at the two circular holes in the upper portion of the timing cover. Top one is WP and middle one is for opti.

GM/AC-Delco/Delphi, they are the same thing. I don't recommend any others. thepartsladi on Ebay seems to be a fair price. Beware of others on Ebay. There is a GM parts contact listed on my Tech Page.

That drawing looks better in its non-condensed, original form...http://shbox.com/1/engine_front_diagram.jpg

You can also check with these AC/Delco dealers:

www.oehq.com
www.autopartsgiant.com

They have very low prices on all AC/Delco parts.
