oil in opti
oil in opti
i took my opti of my 1994 z28 and it seem to have oil on it and maybee in it.i dont have the little socket to take it apart yet,but can that happen to these things and does that mean the whole thing is shot?what is the cheapest way to go to fix these or replace them and stiil have some dependablity.thanks for any info
If you have oil in your opti, I would tend to believe you have a leaking WP or Opti seal in your timing cover. This is not uncommon and while you have your opti off I would check them and probably go ahead and replace them. Very easy and do a seach as tons of info will turn up.
The WP (Waterpump) seal and Opti seals are two circlular seals in the timing cover. One is located directly behind the WP and the other is directly behind the Opti and they seal the timing cover to both. See the diagram below and look at the two circular holes in the upper portion of the timing cover. Top one is WP and middle one is for opti.
