Oil Leak - Eaks! Oil pan gasket...

Hey guys:

I have a 95 Z28 M6. I noticed drops of oil in the garage recently. I got under there and found heavy sweating from the front of the oil pan seal. My only guess would be the gasket. Is this uncommon. How much is this going to cost me. The hoses and lines just below the area are all wet and eveything above looked ok. There was oil at the base of the shaft that the pully is on. Could that be it.

Thanks,
Asim

The only way to pinpoint the leak, is to clean the area well and then check it often.

Rob is correct, best thing to do is clean the area, brake cleaner or carburator cleaner is best then drive it and see where it is coming from. I recently bought a T/A and the front of the intake was leaking along with the rear but resealing intake fixed all my leaks. The oil pan gasket it pretty tough and made from some good rubber but it can leak. Most common front leak is opti seal or water pump drive seal. On the other hand my Z28 did develop an oil leak from the front of the pan and I changed it last year its not too bad of a job, and you dont have to remove pan to do it and since your car is an M6 you dont want to remove pan because it is a lot of work, just lower pan remove gasket and install new one. If it ends up being pan gasket and you decide to do it yourself, shoot me a PM or e-mail I will be glad to help you out on the short cuts I took.
