oil leak from dip stick

I put some dye in my oil tonight and found out I am leaking oil from the dip stick. How can I fix this. Can I pull out the dip stick a little and put some rtv aroud the edge?

If you only pull it out a little (even if you clean the tube off), the hole will still have oil in it. RTV is not going to seal well in that case. If you were to pull the tube out and clean it and the hole, then your RTV may have a chance. Just a dab around the bottom side of the little collar should do it.

It's a PITA, but if you clean the tube really well, and the area around the hole, you can reinstall the dipstick and spray a few coats of high temp paint all around it. That will usually reseal a leak, as long is it's not too big.

Don't forget to let the paint cure for a day before you start it up.
