Oil Guage wiring question???

Oil Guage wiring question???
I am installing a separate oil pressure guage and have a question. Can I simply tap into the wire that now comes from the oil pressure sensor or am I going to have to add a separate pressure sensor for this guage???

Re: Oil Guage wiring question???
Shoebox, I am having trouble finding the auxiliary oil port. I looked at your pic but it is too close to see exactly what's around it. I see the edge of the oil filter but on my engine I can't find the port. Is it located on the side of the block or at the back?? Either way I'm probably going to find I don't have much room to screw in a sending unit.

Re: Oil Guage wiring question???
Its on the side, right above the oil filter. I use that port for my mechanical oil pressure gauge.
Look at the pipe plug stuck in the block above the filter/oil cooler.

Re: Oil Guage wiring question???
Thanks, Fred, I finally found it. Problem is that the sending unit I have doesn't match hole. It has fine thread and looks to be about 3/8 while the plug I pulled out has a coarse thread and appears to be be 1/4". Any ideas where I can pick up a sending unit??

Re: Oil Guage wiring question???
You have an electric pressure sender? Are you sure its 3/8"? Usually they are 1/8" NPT (which has an O.D. of about 3/8"). The hole in the block is 1/4" NPT. There's a 1/8 x 1/4" NPT bushing that would reduce the hole to match the sender.
You may also need an elbow to point the sender in a different direction, because space is at a premium at that location. I have a mechanical oil pressure gauge, and a brass elbow screwed into the block, with a -4AN braided hose running into the dash.
You can see the elbow in this pic, and how crowded it is:
