Oil Filter Cooler?.. How Does The Adapter Work?
Oil Filter Cooler?.. How Does The Adapter Work?
I got my block back from the machine shop about a week ago. I got a few parts back in a bag. one things I dont remember so well was the oil filter adapter thing.. I dont quite understand this.. in my How To rebuild lt1's book it says I can either use the cooler adtaper plate (wich I have and will use) then it shows a picture of another thing I can use with no cooler.. it just shows it bolted up.. I have the things it shows, but it has bolts with about 1/2" dowels coming off the end.. it also has threads for a filter.. so im kinda confused.. why do I have 2 things that a filter can screw to.. what one do I use?.. the how to book did not her mere much at all.
Thanks
Thanks
The stock oil filter adapter is part number 3952302, this bolts right to the block with no gasket. I know some LT1 engines came with an oil cooler, the oil cooler adapter bolted to the block first, and used a gasket. Here is what i am not sure of, does the oil cooler adapter that bolts to the block have its own oil filter threads on it? Or does 3952302 bolt to the oil cooler adapter? I think the later is the way it goes.
that definaty helps. thank you.. is that in the how to rebuild lt4 book?.. I didnt notice it in there..
anyway here is what alldata is showing me..: odd that its not there.. oh well. I got it figured out.. thanks

From the looks of it, i was wrong, the oil filter adapter goes on first, than the oil cooler adapter, but you have to use a gasket between the oil filter adapter, and the block if you are using the oil cooler adapter. The Felpro set comes with all the gaskets you need.
