Maintenance Intervals

On the LT1, when are the following supposed to be changed (ie: every xxxx amount of miles)?

-Spark Plugs
-Plug Wires
-Distributor Cap and Rotor
-Transmission fluid and filter for A4 and M5/M6
-Fuel Filter

Add anything else you can think of that I have not listed, maybe it can be stickied or at the least be made a good search reference, as I didn't find any threads like this when I searched.

According to the handbook, under "normal" driving conditions (shedule II intervals) :

Oil and filter change :Every 7,500 miles or every 12 months, whichever occurs first.

Automatic transmission service (normal conditions) :Every 100,000 miles.

Spark plug replacement :Every 100,000 miles.

Engine accessory drive belt inspection, cooling system service, spark plug wire inspection, air filter replacement, fuel tank, cap and lines inspection :All every 30,000 miles.

There is also a maintenance shedule I, which if for extreme conditions ie:Most trips are less than 5 to 10 miles, most trips include extensive idling, most trips are through dusty areas, you frequently tow a trailer etc, etc.
The intervals are obvioUsly much sooner under these conditions.

It doesn't actually mention the fuel filter,I usually change mine once a year, although I only cover 5,000 miles a year.Distributor cap and rotor aren't mentioned either.

Regards,Mark .

Some other things to consider:

- Flush & change brake fluid at 2 years or when you change brake pads
- Change power steering fluid at 2 years
- Change rear end 80W90 at 30, 000 mile intervals
- Clean IAC & MAF at 10,000 mile intervals or when you change air filter

This has worked well for me w/ 1994 Z/28 A4 182,XXX miles & running strong

I am very glad to see someone talking about a cap and rotor as periodic maintenance, far too often overlooked and then people curse the design when it fails. Honestly the interval on that could probably be 75-100K depending on use. I know I changed an original on one of my cars at 96K because I bought into the internet stupidity about how bad the opti was, assumed it was the problem, later found it had a dead injectors, at 96K the opti was good yet.

Plugs and wires is going to be be very dependant on what you use. A set of basic NGK or Autolite plugs and 20K is going to be plenty, stock 96-7 double platinums 80K and I bet they still work. This is a construction difference not a quality one.
Wires will depend on quality you buy and how well you route them.

As already listed, your owner's manual has a service schedule for most items. Anything else can be asked about.
