Do it and see what it does for you. If it does not work, then buy a new one.

Did you put 4 bolt main caps in the bottom end? If so the dip stick tube will not fit all the way in, it will hit a cap. If this is your problem cut some off off of the bottom of the tube, there is that small bolt that holds it to the block anyway.

Ya I'm gona buy a hacksaw tonight and give it hell. If it still doesnt go in I will have to do the !dipstick mod for a bit - should pick up a few tenths due to the weight reduction. I Need to drive the car and can't wait for a new one right now.

Boom! I cutout about 2 inches from the bottom where it curves a little...and walla slid right in...bolt hole lined right up. Literly had it installed in 5 minutes. Sure does save spending $ on a new one, plus I really don't care about the accuracy of the stick...let alone if that curve even matters.

Just to add info for this thread, I installed my dipstick in the engine a few days ago. I am using a canton 242T pan along with program splayed caps. Upon insertion of the dipstick it came into contact with the main cap. I found the best way for getting around this was to take a large screwdriver and slightly bend the dipstick around the cap. (not much to actually bend)

I wound up doing this because I did not want to cut the dipstick for fear of it getting caught up in the crank without guidance to the pan.

The canton pan needs to be clearanced on the crank scraper for it to sit right on the engine because it contacts the dipstick. The best way to verify where is to use grease or assembly lube on the dipstick and put pan on then pull off.

I too have Canton pan. I cut the tube so it engages about 1 inch. I also ground a sharp point on the "stick." It fits but requies correct radial orientation to clear the 4 bolt splayed cap and engage. I actually trashed the stock stick assy and modified a Locar unit. Now, very easy to de-install/ install. I also modded a -8an fitting so it will thread closed. B.
