Oil Dipstick Install Problems
Well I can't seem to get my oil dipstick back in all the way for some reason. It goes almost all the way down, just not all the way. It is about a 1/4" to 1/2" out of the block. It feels like it is hitting something in my oil pan. It goes really smooth all the way down to that point and then I can hear it like tap and stops dead. I have pried and pulled and all I can come up with is that it must be hitting something in my pan. Any ideas what it is hitting or how I can get this stupid thing in. I have fought with it for two different days now and am getting frustrated.
Re: Oil Dipstick Install Problems
Sounds stupid, but is there any crap/dirt in the oil pan hole?
Did you try twisting back/forth?
I had the same problem on my Mustang...now I haven't had a dipstick or tube on there for 4 years.
Probably not good...but...eh.

Re: Oil Dipstick Install Problems
Try sitting the dip stick tube in the freezer for about an hour or so, this will make the metal shrink just a bit and then try to install it while its very cold, may give you just enough room to get it in. If that doesn't work, you can always trim the end off by about 1/2", hell I had to cut about 3" off mine before it went in
Re: Oil Dipstick Install Problems
sorry guys. Yea it's a stock pan
Yea i have been reading posts about sanding off the paint and freezing it like you said. I didn't even need to sand, 3-4 hours of up and down took the paint right off..lol. It just stops so hard that I think the way it is bent must be contacting something inside. I have headers of course so the tube is all bend to accomodate it, I think maybe the bend is making it hit something inside. Not sure what to do.
Maybe I will just trim the end off.

Re: Oil Dipstick Install Problems
Are there windage trays in these pans? Does anyone have a picture of the stock pan showing the inside of it? For some odd reason I am worried about the thin stick you take the reading on going somwhere it shouldn't.
Anyone have a picture of a stock pan(inside).

ah that's a good idea
I will have to give that a shot. If it does hit what do i do? What would it be hitting?
Nope, no 4-bolt mains. Just out for the valve cover to come off and now won't go back in.
