Once again total BS. Yeah some shorties are bad but others have some of the best plug access. Mac's have been a long time favorite when it comes to quality, fitment and plug access. My SLP's are't that bad just one is kind of a pain but still better than stock manifolds.

No, it's not BS. If you look at what I said I said the people I have SEEN had horrible shortie space. Did I say all? I said a lot of times plug access isn't good on shorties, and that is BS because you really know all the shortie headers I've seen right. Also notice I said I don't know about the Pacesetters. Don't call someones post bull sh*t because you didn't understand it.

And yes, a few of my friends had the SLP shorty headers and the plug access was god awful compared to LT's. As stated above, what is easy for you doesn't make it easy for others.

Re: Oh so many header threads! (here's one more)

I just finished my headers, went with Hooker long tubes. Everything went pretty smooth, but I also did ES trans and motor mounts. Took me like 3 weeks off and on. Although after removing all the parts to install the headers I decided to order a converter.. But I didnt have any clearance issues, and they went in pretty easily. The worst part was jacking the car up to scary heights to get the headers in from underneith.
And OVC wires are definitely a GREAT investment. I picked mine up from elite spark plugs.

I agree, the Over the valve cover wire kit is definitely a great way to protect your wires and add a degree of visual appeal and professionalism to the engine bay.

blind527 - That's a great walkthrough! I wish I had that when I did my FLP's. You had alot of good tips I could have used. Took me a month to do mine also.

Just a vote for MAC midlength headers. You can get them, including the Y-pipe for around $560 shipped, with the Jet-Hot coating. They have the best plug access, bar none, but other headers also have very good access. The 1 5/8" primary keeps your low end TQ, and doesn't seem to sacrifice any HP up top unless you are making HUGE hp numbers.(400+ rwhp). They also don't have the problem of the Y-pipe flange hitting the floor board like many LT's do. They also leave a little more room in the engine bay than LT's with 1 3/4" primaries, and all the header bolts go on easily.

Mine gave me serious gains on the dyno, with the addition of my Hooker catback (30-35 rwhp)

You can see pictures of them on my webpage, under the header link, and you can see them installed if you click on the 1.6RR link.

Hehe, thanks. But that's not me I found that site a long time ago, and it helped me tremendously with my headers.

MAC's are going to be the best plug access you can get on a LT1. As stated before they are a 1 5/8" primary which keeps more low end torque. I have the pacessetter long tube headers and their y-pipe on my '95 Z and they are a great header. I also have the MAC headers and y-pipe on my '96 Z daily driver. You can't go wrong with either one, but if emissions are a factor for you I would vouch for the MAC's. Install for shorties or long tubes isn't that bad, just time consuming. Good luck!
