OBD Question?

Hey guys, Im new to the site so take it easy on me. I recently owned a '94 Camaro v6, but am currently looking to purchase a 95 Z28. I took it to the mechanic for an inspection and had him run the codes. The only problem was he said the OBD wasnt giving any data. I believe he was using a scanner for OBD2.

I've read on some discussions that this could be because the '95 has a OBD 1.5. Is this on '95 that was produced for the year? I've heard that the 3.8L produced in California came out with the OBD2 for that year, this particular Z28 was also from California originally, so I dont know if that would have anything to do with it also. Hopefully someone on here can give me a little more insight before purchasing the car. If anymore info on the car is needed, let me know. Thanks.

OBD-1.5 was used on the Corvette LT1's, not on the F-Body. ALL 95's are OBD-I with a 16-pin OBD-II style ALDL connector.

95 A4's only, with CA emissions (RPO "YF5"), had dual cats. But they were still OBD-I.

Shoebox has the answer to scanning them:

So, to state in different words. 95 is OBDI, but it has an OBDII connector. So to scan it, you would need an OBDI scanner that has an OBDII connector.
You would need an OBDI cable with an OBDII connector, which are available. But you would need to do an OBDI scan, which an OBDII scanner would not be able to do.
Datamaster, Freescan can do the scan, but you would need the cable, such as those from akmcables or similar.

Thanks for the quick responses! I took it to get scanned with the PROPER equipment. The only problem was it doesnt seem to have any power. Could this be a bad ground? I checked all the fuses and relays and they were good. Anyone have this problem before?

What do you mean by "it doesn't have any power"? "WHAT" doesn't have any power?

Sorry for the confusion. The OBD port doesnt seem to have any power. The scanner wouldnt even receive an error code. Even with the correct scanner and software, it isnt getting any data.

Check the fuse for the cig lighter. It's on the same circuit as the port.

Is the key on the "on" position?
