o2 problems
o2 problems
Hey guys. My car threw codes tonight.
133 bank 1 sensor 1 (slow resonse)
157 bank 2 sensor 2 (low voltage)
160 bank 2 sensor 2 (no activity)
Okay about a month ago I put new headers in along with new sensor 1's o2's. And bank 2 sensor 2 is about 2 months old. So now im thinking wireing is my problem. I have a volt ohm meter im going to check all the plugs and see there. What kind of readings should i be getting from there? Also where on the car do the wires end up at? Where else should i look? Any help would be great.

Freddy the slow response code is typical indication for a failing sensor unfortunately, but it may be a fluke. I am curious as to what type of headers you have and if any what kind of cats you have. That might be a source of your # 2 sensor problems. I simply put simulators on mine when I added the headers.
Hey Freddy, sorry I can't help you with your problem, but I noticed you are here in Fresno. Have you found any places that are decent for parts? Where did you get you O2 sensors, and what brand are they? Thanks!
Cef: Thanks for the reply. I have bbk shorties. As for the sims. Im in cali and worryed about the whole smog deal. My cats are the stock ones that came with the car i havnt messed with them yet. Ive herd storys that at times when cats go out they take out the 02 after it. Think that could be?
Kix: I shop at autozone alot for stock stuff (ie plugs, wipers and well o2 sensors) the sensors are staderd bosch. They run me about 60 bucks or so a peice.
As for aftermarket stuff. I just order from the websites and summit, jegs ext.
nice to see fellow fresno people here.

Is it possible you contaminated the Bank1 pre-cat sensor when you moved it from the manifold to the header? Oil on it, or RTV, anti-sieze? Even getting oil or other foreign substances on the outside will slow it down.
It's not likely that a failing cat (if that's what you meant by "when the cats go out") would cause the after-cat O2 sensor to fail, unless the cat substrate actually broke up and the particles plugged the sensor. Since volts are low, it is indicating a high O2 content at all times, and it might mean a leak at the cat.
If you could get AutoTap on it and check the mV's for all 4 O2 sensors, it might lead you to the problem.

Thanks injuneer. You gave me somewhere to start. The before cat o2 is brandnew. I put it on when the headers went in. I did call autozone they said its warranted and they will give me another one. Sence i got it in dec and its now giveing me problems.
scensor 2. I think i might have to stick my head under there with the car on. I never thought something like that would throw my o2 off.
thanks
by the way.. Whats an auto tap?

Freddy I have heard mixed reviews about the Bosch O2 sensors that AutoZone sales don't have any personal experiences with them myself but many people complain of failures with them. Also Injuneer brought up a good point about contamination I know the Bosch O2's come with Anti-Seize on them which could possibly contaminate the sensor if it is not handled correctly. Also as Injuneer stated low voltage means a high oxygen content which could be caused by a header leak. Also one other thing you might check is your fuel pressure you possibly may have a failing fuel pump although in severe cases I would think some other DTC's would pop up. Oh Auto Tap is a program which allows you to see real time data from the ECM on a laptop or PDA you could watch the O2 values change while the engine is running to help narrow down your problem. Good Luck!
