Re: Not to loud catback

You must have missed the beginning of the thread I have a set of SLP shorty headers and it seems to be the consensus of the board memebers that the Shorties arent as good as the mid or LT headers but in order to get them to perform fairly well I need to get a better Y pipe I just want to add the Cat back also for even better performance. I am hoping in all with the 96 SLP shorty headers (they are supposed to be better than the 93 shorty headers) the aftermarket Y pipe and the Magnaflow cat back exhaust I get around 25 HP. I also have a CAI system, 1.7 Scorpion RR and the TB bypass kit. I think I will get my TB boredout to 52 MM and get the 1LE elbow and a PCMforless tune I am shooting for a total of 65 HP gain over stock oh yeah and change those crappy 2.73 gears to 3.37 LOL Not sure where I will end up but I am going to Dyno before and after.

I didn't miss the beginning as I was one of the first to respond to your post, simply forgot that you had the headers already installed,my memory doesn't serve me that well anymore. Anyways, an aftermarket y-pipe will help to add some ponies and whether you decide to get one with or without cats. depends on your emissions regulations. You should be very happy with the mail-order tune, I was. Some 3.42 or 3.73 gears will definitely wake your car up as well.

Do you think 65 HP is to much to ask from those mods or am I in the ballpark?

With those mods I'd say an extra 40rwhp. Maybe a bit more depending on the tune

Re: Not to loud catback

50 isnt out of question with a good tune assuming the engine is in strong running condition and has a fresh tune up.

Re: Not to loud catback

The motor is original and has only 40,000 on it the car was my mothers it goes really well now but I am surprised with some of the numbers I have seen posted on here I thought even more than 50. In other posts they are talking 25 for headers and a Y pipe so I figured about 25 for the headers Y pipe and Magnaflow would be about right maybe. 10-20 for the CAI so I went low with 10, TB bypass is good for maybe 2 I guess from other posts 52 MM TB isnt going to give me much but when I get the supercharger will help out with flow 1.7 RR I thought would be good for 10-15 HP as some have seen 10 with 1.6's and the tune is usually around 10 HP I figure tuned to my mods I would get atleast that out of it. Thats 57 just shy of 60 going low on numbers I have seen on here. I cant wait to see wither way. I will post dyno numbers from before and after. Alot of times its not as much as you think but it brings the Torque curve in where you can use it so it feels better and goes better. I put a BMC race filter did an airbox mod Power Commander (custom tune)and a Two Brothers Exhaust on my Hayabusa and only gained 6 HP but it deffinatly feels faster especially around 6k-12k

Re: Not to loud catback

I don't know a whole heck of a lot about valve gear, but I don't believe for a second that an engine making 300-ish horsepower would gain anywhere near 10hp from a set of roller rockers. More like 1hp, maybe 2 if you're lucky.

Somebody back me up, or somebody tell me I'm an idiot.

You also got to take into account though, some overlap. Granted each mod. you listed has the potential to provide those gains, all of the mods. together will not add up together perfectly.

Re: Not to loud catback

Well if thats the case I may have some for sale cause I sure as heck anint going through modding out my valve covers and putting in a set of (i dont remember how much I paid but probably a couple hundred dollars) and all the work associated with it (guide plates replacing the studs etc) for 1 maybe 2 HP it aint worth it to me. I will sell them and save the money twards my supercharger whcich should be about 75 HP.

Look on the brightside, if you ever do a cam. upgrade one day, those rockers will be beneficial.

Re: Not to loud catback

For best performance with a supercharger, you should get a cam. For best performance with a cam, you should have RR's. It's a supporting mod. Don't sell them!

Re: Not to loud catback

I dont plan on taking the motor apart on it anytime. I thought the RR would give me about 10 HP cause I have read alot about 1.6's in differetn threads and some decent gains.

Here

And here

You guys are scaring me LOL I like the way it goes stock so I suppose it isnt that big of a deal but damn thats alot of time and money for not much gain. 1-2 HP 300 dollars for RR guide plates and 3 hours of my time not very cost effective LOL buy a complete stroker motor and a supercharger and bolt it in yeah baby hehe

As you have already found in your research, rockers are good for at least a 10hp gain and for those that installed them, they have reported gains in both feel and at the actual strip. Also, as mentioned above, rockers are a great supporting mod. for either a cam., heads, or supercharger depending on what direction you eventually go with everything.
