Not to loud catback
Not to loud catback
OK I tried to search quickly and didnt find to much and I bet this has been beat into submission but please help me anyway. I want a nice catback for my 93 LT1 I dont want real loud as I have SLP headers and I am going to go with high performance cats or maybe none at all. I would like good power but not so loud it kills you in fact I kind of like a little louder than stock sound but I know its going to be louder to get more performance right so tell me what you have and what you like and dyno results if you know of any.

Re: Not to loud catback
Stock muffler and a electronic cutout. obviously if you're just driving around town you don't need to worry about the performance loss from the stock exhaust and it will keep it pretty quiet. I'm going with a setup like that.
Re: Not to loud catback
I have a magnaflow and love it! A little louder then stock when the RPMs are low and when you open up the throttle it has a nice roar
Ide say eather get Magnaflow or Borla. Both are high quality stainless steel that wont rust and you can adjust the borla but it is more expensive.

Re: Not to loud catback
My ****in flowmaster is so quiet at idle its almost gay. Cruising its louder, but not absurd, but when you go WOT it screams, I mean, its really loud.
If I could do it over again though Id go with a single chamber flowmaster single exit, then make a way to split so I still get the two sweet looking tips out the back in the middle
Flowmaster also makes another catback, called the Force II or something like that that is supposed to give you the tone but be even quieter ... Id never do it, but it sounds like its what you want.
Also, check for some soundclips cause it seems like half of the ppl love hookers sound, the other half doesnt. I personally am not too impressed. I dont like the tone compared to the Flows ... But then again, they flow better and make a little more power

Re: Not to loud catback
The Corsa catback is quieter than stock below 2000 rpm, and it sounds great when you get into it. I can't hear it at all if I'm in 6th below 90mph.
I don't have headers, though...

Re: Not to loud catback
lol thats what I dont like about it. I want something rhaspy, loud, and "not smooth" crousing around ... Honestly, my flowmaster with no cats and long tubes gives me the sound I want, it just holds back 2 or 3 horsepower ...
Re: Not to loud catback
I would suggest the Magnaflow catback, nice and cheap but stainless steel and nice quality. I don't have my headers and gutted cat on yet so I'm not sure how much louder it will get, but I don't consider it loud as it is now. It's a little louder than stock at idle and low rpm cruising, but not obnoxious. But when you get on it it's plenty loud IMO, sounds great.
If you email one of the ebay vendors that sells them w/ a "free cat" for $350ish and ask about purchasing it w/o the cat you can get it for $300 shipped brand new... It was the user selling for performance-curve.com I believe, significantly higher on their webpage though.

Re: Not to loud catback
I just removed the flowmaster on my formula today and replaced it with a magnaflow.
Thought that the magnaflow would be louder with the better flow numbers it gets over the flowmaster.
The flowmaster sounded loud at idle and even louder at WOT setting off car alarms.
Can hardly hear the magnaflow at idle but does sound sweet at WOT.
All and All I think I wasted money on this exhaust ****,should have just kept the flowmaster on.
If your looking for loud go with the Loud Mouth thats how it gets it's name. Some say its too loud and gets annoying after a while.

Re: Not to loud catback
Hooker CatBack- quiet idle and at cruise (important on my 60 mile round trip to work), loud aggressive raspy sound on the throttle. They aren't stainless, but in Florida that doesn't matter much. Less than $300 from Summit (PN- HOK-16825HKR) delivered in just days. Easy install, too. I did it alone in about 2 beers. Very satisfying.
Re: Not to loud catback
I have setup with Arizona Speed and Marine headers, Random Technology High-Flow catalytic converter and Magnaflow catback.
It's just little louder than stock at idle but loud aggressive sound on the throttle.
