May be silly but somone asked me the other day and I have not been able to find an answer, why is there a hole in the front of an LT1 camshaft but not a Gen 1 roller?
Opti I am quessing?
Sorry if a stupid question. Thanks

all cam's have a hole filled with a dowel for the cam sprocket. the one in the center is for the opti drive to sit in.
First Gen cams dont have that big of a hole due to the distributor loation on the motor. Gen 1 is on the back of the motor. Gen 2 (LT's) is on the front. the distributor drives of the front of the cam.

Yeah, as soon as I typed it and submitted realized what I was asking. The reason I was wondering was can a Gen 1 roller be modified for the opti drive, If one was so inclined? I would imagine it would be no different than drilling it out from the factory would it?
Like someone had a good cam gen 1 roller but wants to use in lt1. Machine shop shouldn't charge more than $20 to drill the hole to match for the opti drive. Just a thought.
