Non Starting LT1!!!! ....yes another...

READ ME!!

All right guys... my Lt1 is doing the good old no start on me.I know what you are thinking....another Lt1 that does not start...then it gets fixed and they never reply and say what the problem was...when I figure this out...I will post and let everyone know what went wrong.

I just put in a new Opti and got the car to fire up right on the first try,the engine sounds great and runs fine for 45 sec then it just dies on me.It did this 5 or 6 times. To get the car to start I had to turn the key on and off a few times. As I i would restart the car I would check out my scanmaster and my Maf was reading in the mid 20's and the CEL was at 16 (idle table).I checked the fuel pressure and its right at 42psi, no drop when it dies..just kind of hangs out.I pulled the TB off cleaned the IAC valve because it was at 160 on my scanmaster.I get the TB back on the car and turn the key on and crank...IAC is at 138 and my Maf is now at 00 and my CEL is at 00....Im thinking "this...is going to be some S*%T".

So I started to run down what could be going on.I checked the Opti harness....its clean and has no breaks..its in nice shape.I pulled the wire off #1 and had no spark. Then I moved on to the coil wire and still no spark. Then I bypassed my MSD 6al and still.....nada.So what Im asking is....WHAT THE HELL DID I DO!...heh..Did I bump something?..after 10 years...does the LT1 hate me?Joking aside ... the whole reason I put the new Opti in was because it had a high rpm miss and then it became this no start nonsense.

Im going to try a new coil and ICM in the morning...if that does not work what is my next step?Ignition switch?Tell me what to look to try and I will try it and let you know.

Will do....I have a new GM one someplace....I will try that and get back to you...thanks for the idea

I have a MSD coil and a GM ICM in my garage...Im a spare parts *****.

My problem is that I dont have spark out of the coil....I did for a few minutes and then it would die, now I have no spark.

What I keep thinking about is that I had to turn the key on and off a few times before I could get it to fire up again.....thats just wierd..is that the VATS?

well......got the MSD coil in and my GM ICM and the car would not fire...

so I checked the IGN 10 amp fuse and it was popped.replaced that and got the car to fire up and it ran for 30 sec then died again..I did a little more poking around and I think I have found my problem where my MSD box wires into the main wireharness...

Im going to pull the cluster F of wires out and solder all the connections....

I will let you guys know if that fixed the problem or if its just another step to find out whats really going on.

Dunno, maybe he's just not going to tell the 60 of us that have been here waiting?

FWIW, I may read a thread, but if I don't know the answer or have anything intelligible to add, then I guess I just become one of those people who don't care?

Glad you got it fixed man, but just because nobody replies doesn't mean nobody cares.

Re: Non Starting LT1!!!! ....yes another...

it was a spade connector on the positive side of the coil that came from the MSD box.....I felt the spade connector and it fried the tip of my finger it was so hot from all of the resistance.....and that would load up the ignition circuit and the car would shut down....I cut out the spades and solder and heatshrink all the connectons to the MSD box like I should have done when I installed it.
