No oil with hi pressure?

So I started up the Z and the low oil light is on. I check it, nothing on the dipstick, but for the few seconds the car was on I still had about 50 psi on the oil gauge...right where it usually is on my car. Wouldn't the low oil cause low pressure?

if it were 3 quarts low it wouldnt have shown on the dipstick but had enough to operate with oil pressure. it depends on how low it is.

Re: No oil with hi pressure?

You had oil pressure, using what oil you had in there. Pressure won't drop until there is no oil for the pump to pick up. Some high rpms or go hard around a corner or make a hard stop and your pressure is going to drop. Worst case scenario is you trash your bearings.

IMO, a bigger concern would be about your oil being that low.

Yeah....it was dark last night so now I can go take a look at the Z....I just changed the oil about 800 miles ago....so either I developed some massive leak, or completely wasn't paying attention to how much I put back in...I'm going right now to check it out.

It normally leaks a little bit, and I put in about 3/4 quart between changes (3k) from up by the front main seal...
