I am guessing here.I would say the timing belt.Cant see any other reason it would do that.

If you put a new head on it, My guess its the timing also. Either in the cam, timing belt or distributor. ITs pretty odd that it ran good fr a day then quit. What are all the reading on all the cylinders? If the cam jumped some teeth on the belt, the valves might be opening at the wrong time, causing no compression. I'm not real familar with this engine. Is it an overhead cam, If so you might want to pull the valve cover , bring engine to #1 cylinder and check to make sure the distributor is at #1 and see if both valves are closed at #1 You can sometimes check for #1 crankshaft position by looking at the torque convertor area, sometimes they put a cut in the case, where there is a mark that shows when its right. You could even rotate the engine by hand to make sure the valves are opening at the right time. I can't see you blowing another gasket so quickly, unless it was put on upside down. On one of my cars, I had a timing belt actually lose like 5 teeth, which I couldn't see and it threw everything off
