Id look at headers before you look at a cam. Check out hooker LTs or Jethot LTs though if you need to pass emissions then something like SLP or AS&M are a good set of headers.

if you cam your engine your gonna need new roller rockers, springs, lifters, retainers, and possibly pushrods.

I would definitely go with headers before a cam. If you want a set of midlegths go with the Macs but I would personally go with the JET HOT LT's.

Yes definitely go with headers before a cam... The cam has to breathe. And you MIGHT need retainers and such for a cam but if you go with a small cam like the LT4 hotcam all you need is the kit that comes with 1.6rr's, LT4 Springs, and the cam. Thats all you need for that setup, but for more lift than that you will need lifters, retainers and such........ Bottom line, i had the same mods as you and asked the same question a couple of years ago... I ended up going with AS&M's and they made a BIG difference.... They are the perfect medium header, make alot more than the shorties and make just shy of the long tubes........ Good luck.

also keep in mind a cam needs a tune. and i'm pretty sure as long as you keep everything emission legal you wont need a tune for headers.

Ok ok, you guys convinced me headers first before a cam. BUT can i install them myself, and most importantly, i don't want to lower my car, so what would be the cheapest headers that give the most bang for the buck?

What dude meant was if you installed long tube headers, you may NOT BE ABLE to lower your car. Long tubes are a great way to go, but are a pain in the a*s to install. I like the SLP shorties in 1 3/4". They fit well, are easy (?) to install, and are less expensive than the Arizona Speed headers (which are superior as far as I am concerned).

Good luck.

EDIT - oh ya, going fast aint cheap; the first 1 second costs about $2500, the next one will get ya for twice that.

This message brought to you by Purina Ralston, who reminds you that if it ain't fast, its a DOG!

If it doesn't spec your year, don't buy it. The EGR port is placed differently.

The price isn't bad, but when it comes to headers, fitment, longevity, and overall quality (will it keep a seal, with no leaks) quantum meruit; you get what you pay for.

Also, long headers are much more difficult to install, and may require that you unbolt the motor mounts and lift the engine to get them in. Check around some more on this board about long tube installs.

Good luck.

I would either get some gears and a stall if you can. Or get some long tube headers or a good set of mid-length headers. Both will benifit you a lot.
